TOOLS
The first thing that you need to do is get your desired domain name registered. My site of choice for this is
REGISTER.com.
You can search for a domain, register it, monitor it and keep track of all your domains and their needs here.
Second you have to find a host for your site. This will be the company that houses your Web site on their servers. When someone types in your domain name, it will point to an IP address that corresponds with your host. For an inexpensive start, I've found that
PAIR.com
provides a good service and is easy to use. Best of all, they work together with
REGISTER
to make expediating your site publication easier.
My host of choice is
ENGRAM.net.
They provide a fast, quality, reliable resource for all of your hosting needs. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for in this business (they also happen to be my good friends). For advanced larger sites, I definitely recommend
ENGRAM.
Finally, you need to have a feel for what you are trying to achieve with your site. The look and feel, navigation, color schemes, etc. can only be envisioned after checking out all of your favorite sites and coming up with ideas of your own. Make it a point to write down the URLs (Web addresses) of all of the sites that you like. During the initial consultation, we can use these sites as a reference.
Oh yeah, if you don't have a computer, I can build them too. As a matter of fact, I built the one I'm programming on right now...from scratch. If you do have a PC and would like FREE access to the Internet, it's time to get with the program. Download yourself a copy of
NetZero
and stop paying $21.95 per month!
